Attractively Priced Natural Ox Hair Alternative to Sable Brushes

Series 214 - Brights
Long handleh3>

Utrecht's finest quality sabeline paint brushes use carefully selected natural Ox hair whose inherent characteristics for painting applications are similar to red sable. The result is an excellent quality long handled art brush that offers artists a lower priced alternative to comparable Sable hair brushes.

A short flat tuft make the Series 214 sabeline art brush ideal for short, controlled strokes. Like sable hair brushes, sabeline brushes can be used with any oil, acrylic and watercolor paint. Because Ox hair is coarser than sable, the Series 214 art brush is better suited for painting with heavier oils and acrylics or with thick impasto. In watercolor painting, artists frequently use these sabeline brushes instead of sable to save 'wear and tear' on the more costly sable brushes. Our well made sabeline art brushes carry a lot of paint, provide more spring than sable hair brushes and are less stiff than natural bristle brushes.

Key natural Ox hair features:

  • Strong and resilient body
  • Capacity to hold a lot of paint
  • Good shape retention
  • Better choice than sable for working with heavier colors
  • Less expensive than sable

Each handmade sabeline paint brush uses carefully selected natural Ox hair that is securely set in seamless nickel plated ferrules, which are then double crimped onto long, polished wooden handles.

    Experience: PROFESSIONAL

I use these for Impasto Watercolor & they have been a surprisingly good quality brush. I had read about the use of ox hairs (I think it was historically speaking) as a good alternative to sable. They have proved to hold their shape beautifully & give me nice precise strokes. I believe by the feel of them with the impasto watercolor that they would also work as well with acrylic & oil. I work on experimental surfaces which my softer brushes can not handle: the point gets worn off of natural, & synthetic the ends frizz as well as wear. That is why I wanted these ox hairs. I need the quality only a good brush can deliver but cant afford to destroy my squirrels & sables. So far so good! Please don"t discontinue these awesome brushes! I have just ordered 2 more of all on clearance - unbelievable prices!!!!!!
